ABOUT US

Meet Owner/Operator - Joe Ward:

I was never much for sitting in a classroom. I always preferred
taking things apart and repurposing them or just creating what I
needed. I’ve been working in the skilled trades for the past three
decades.

At first, I intended to become a pipefitter. I worked in various

positions increasing my skills and picking up carpentry,

fabrication, maintenance, and repair experiences along the way.

The work paid the bills, but I was always searching for something

more fulfilling.

I have two daughters, Kaia and Izzy, and my wife, Jamie. Through
them I have become
active in my community as a football, soccer,
and
baseball/softball coach, volunteer with the PTA, cheer and pom dad. As my community
involvement grew, my reputation
for maintenance and design grew as well. I began spending my free time tackling small projects for friends and neighbors including custom shelving and cabinets.

Then the pandemic hit. The world stopped. I was trapped at home and started building custom desks for families that were thrown into homeschooling. I built desks that would fit in small bedroom corners and huge desks that filled rooms. I never looked back. With the support of my family, I created Joe’s Custom and Rustic Woodworks and have gone from a small shop making desks for families to a shop dedicated to meeting the unique, custom décor needs of families throughout Michigan.
